What is a bat mitzvah?
“Bat mitzvah” literally means “ daughter of the commandments.” This special day marks a young woman’s transition into adulthood within the Jewish community. It marks the beginning of many obligations and privileges as a Jewish adult. Perhaps a more appropriate definition would be “one who is prepared to take on the commandments,” because the bat mitzvah symbolizes the young person’s obligation to perform mitzvot (good deeds) – the duties of Jewish life.

Over the last several years, Izzy has dedicated a great deal of time to study and learn Hebrew, the Torah, and Jewish traditions in preparation for this great occasion. On the day of her bar mitzvah, Izzy will be called to the Torah (the Hebrew text of the Five Books of Moses) and will express her learning of the text through her chanting and her speech. The bat mitzvah service will be held at Temple Rodef Shalom in Falls Church, Virginia at 5:00 pm on Saturday, December 6, 2025. Following the service, we will celebrate with a party at The Westin in Arlington
